Nucore Grip Series Achieves two-star ⭐️⭐️ Biobased Certification by TÜV Austria

We’re excited to announce that our Nucore grip series has received TÜV Austria’s OK Biobased 2-star certification, confirming the biobased content of the products. This certification is a significant milestone in our journey toward more sustainable bicycle components.

What does OK Biobased Certification mean?

For bike manufacturers, the certification provides a reliable benchmark to communicate sustainability efforts to customers. OK Biobased is an internationally recognized certification system that measures the percentage of renewable materials in products. Using a carbon-dating method (C14 analysis), the certification assigns products a star rating from 1 to 4, according to their biobased content. Products with 20–40% biobased material earn a 1-star rating, while those exceeding 80% earn 4 stars.

In Herrmans case, the outer layer of Nucore grips uses a biobased TPE material, which is 60% biobased. As an overall result, the grip contains around 50% biobased content, placing Nucore solidly in the 2-star category.

Why is this certification Important?

Transparency and credibility are essential as we work toward reducing reliance on fossil-based materials. TÜV Austria’s certification provides independent validation of the materials and methods behind our Nucore grips. For us, it’s more than just a label—it’s proof of progress.
